This slice makes a wonderful treat for special occasions, it is one of our family favourites for Christmas along with peanut butter balls and choc chip cookies.    It can be made a couple of days ahead and kept in the refrigerator, or alternatively keeps well in the freezer too.   This slice can easily be made  gluten free if you just use gluten free flour in place of ordinary flour, I find the Aldi brand of gluten free flour the best tasting and most economical.  All of these home made treats will cost a fraction of the price of…

This slice is simple to make and really delicious!  You can either use the recipe for the caramel filing or substitute a can of ready-made caramel topping.  Aldi sells ready-made caramel for the same price as condensed milk. For the slice in the photo I used a can of ready-made caramel and some left over mixed nuts. Ingredients Base 1 c SR flour or gluten free SR flour ½ c sugar ½ c dessicated coconut 100 g butter, melted Filling 1 can condensed milk 3 tbsp brown sugar 30 g butter Topping 1 ½ c chopped nuts of your choice…

Here is a wonderful slice which is easy to make, thrifty and relatively healthy.  I had some homemade jam left over from last year, which I wanted to use up; as well as quite a supply of whole meal flour, which needed to be used sooner rather than later.  Today I solved both problems and made a double quantity of this lovely slice, and have cut it into pieces to freeze for later use.  I find it is really handy to have some homemade baked goods in the freezer for when you have unexpected visitors or you are running a…

This super easy slice came about on a bit of a whim.  As you know I have just cleaned out my pantry and I found a few bits and pieces that needed to be used up.  Making a slice with some of the odd bits of dried fruit was a good way to use them up and the slice turned out to be really yummy and moist!  Don’t be afraid to just substitute whatever spare dried fruit you have.  It is a really easy recipe, just throw all the ingredients in one bowl and give it a bit of a…

This is a fun and easy slice to make for a treat.  It can be easily converted to a gluten free recipe if you wish.  I made this on the weekend and it was a hit!  I substituted homemade plum jam because that is what I had on hand. I also used up some extra large marshmallows, which were in the cupboard.  I just cut the marshmallows into slices to make them work. The marshmallows I used were from Costco and were gluten free, but if you don’t need to eat gluten free then any marshmallow will be fine. Ingredients…
