I recently had a wonderful surprise when I discovered lots of little plums on one of our flowering plum trees.  I decided to pick them and see if I could make some jam.  There was a total of 1.1 kilos of plums which was a great bonus from a tree which isn’t supposed to produce fruit!  I found a great recipe for making plum jam from wild plums here.  This is the recipe I used, just changed it up for the quantity of plums available.  I am sure this recipe would work with shop bought plums too! I recently harvested a crop of chillies from my chilli bushes which were left on there from last season. They are not a particularly hot chilli so I often put several of them in my chilli beef recipe to bulk it up. On this particular occasion I decided to try something different so I looked up some recipes for chilli jam or relish. I have had a really enjoyable day at home today.  I tried pickling beetroot for the first time and it turned out just great!   Unfortunately, I had only planted a small amount of beetroot, so my first attempt of pickling only yielded one jar … but wow it brought me such satisfaction.  Next time I’ll know to plant copious amounts of beetroot, since it grows really easily, doesn’t seem to be worried by pests, the green tops make great chicken feed and the pickling process is pretty simple.  I tasted one of the cooked beets with a little pickling…
