Sadly, my mum passed away a few weeks ago so I have not been able to do any writing until now.  However, I thought I might get started again and remind all you mums out there what an important role you play in nurturing and raising your children.  I am so thankful to my mum for all the love she poured into us, and all the practical skills she taught us.  In a day and age when the role of mothers seems to be undervalued, I would like to encourage all the mums out there, young and old that mothering…

Last week I finally got around to doing a household job which I really dislike.  A young girl I know was asking if I had any odd jobs she could do to earn some pocket money, so I thought that was a great opportunity to get some help.  The job I got her to do was to wash the front doors of my kitchen cabinets.  That doesn’t sound too hard, but there is a routed pattern in the doors which is a bit of a pain to clean, so I tend to put it off until they look really yucky!…

Yesterday I had the privilege to just have a quiet day mainly in the garden and boy was it refreshing. I just pottered around and did a few odd jobs. Homestead hubby is recovering from an injury so we both pottered around getting a few outside jobs done, albeit quite slowly. We moved the woodpile ready for winter, moved some pot plants and generally tidied up some of the things, which were a bit behind in the yard.   A day out in the autumn sun was most enjoyable and it was very fulfilling to get some of those little jobs…

I found myself in need of a doorstop recently and the thought came to me that I probably had everything I needed to make one on hand.  I went out to the garden shed and sure enough I found an old paver, I was looking for half a brick, but thought a whole paver would have to do.  I found a piece of old towel, which had recently been retired, after twenty years of service, a piece of left over fabric, pins, needle, thread and scissors and went to work.  Half an hour later, problem solved I had a lovely…
